How to Take Care of Your Veneers

April 29, 2022 3:03 am

While dental veneers should last anywhere from 10 to 20 years, it is essential that you do all you can to take good care of them. With the proper care, you can maximize the life of your veneers so you can enjoy many long years with your stunning smile.

Maintain Proper Oral Hygiene

The first step in taking care of your veneers is simply taking proper care of your oral health. Make sure you gently and thoroughly brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. We recommend using an electric toothbrush. Remember to brush your tongue! Floss every day with string floss, a water flosser, or a combination. Additionally, visit your dentist for regular checkups and professional cleanings. All of these simple habits can really add up in terms of their positive effect on your dental health and longevity of your veneers.

Protect Your Teeth From Damage

If you have a habit of grinding your teeth while you sleep (which is a condition called bruxism), then you should consult your dentist about getting a nightguard. The excessive pressure can end up damaging your veneers, as well as your jaw and any other teeth without veneers.

Additionally, do not use your teeth as a tool to open packages, rip things, etc. You also should not chew on hard objects like pens or ice. If you do, you may wind up chipping your veneers.
